Industry Town Question

Name any "company town" that hasn't gone into despair after "the company" left. You can change company to industry and come up with examples.

I'll start off with a question that can be used to generate the answer I'm seeking.

What cities and/or towns in North and South Carolina haven't gone into despair because of the loss of the textile jobs?

If you can't come up with an example, then my follow up question is, why do some people seem to expect Detroit to be any different?
