Martin O'Malley supports the idea of dumbing down Black kids in the majority Black Baltimore Public School System. That's the only thing I can say to this:
Mayor Martin O'Malley rallied yesterday to the defense of city school board members who lowered the passing grade for key subjects taught in Baltimore's schools, but the move drew criticism from several City Council members and a spokesman for Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.
During an appearance at an East Baltimore middle school, O'Malley said lowering the minimum passing grade from 70 to 60 changed the grading scale, but it did not lower standards. He said the school board acted properly by aligning the city school system with others around the state that use 60 as the minimum passing grade. "We do not want standards lowered," O'Malley said.
Interim schools Chief Executive Officer Charlene Cooper Boston, who joined O'Malley for a cleanup campaign at Northeast Middle School yesterday, said she also supports the new policy, though it was enacted in early June, before she took the top school's job. Boston's comments mirrored some of the same points that were made by O'Malley.
What the article doesn't mention is the lowest score a student can receive is a 50.
[ Update ]
Think about that for a minute. If a student gets a 50 in the first quarter, then gets a 70 in the second quarter, they have the minimum passing grade of 60 for the semester. Before, when the student needed a minimum passing grade of 70, they needed to get a 90 in the second quarter to pass the semester.
They lowered the standards, period. And the interim schools chief is a Black woman.
And some Black people want O'Malley to become governor?!?!?!?

O'Malley is being quoted as saying that this is just an adjustment of the 4.0 scale. Well, that's bunk.
A 'D', no matter what, is 1.0. A 'C', no matter what is 2.0. If the BCPSS scale means a 'D' is now 2.0, they have to explain this scale to colleges when they request the student's transcripts.
O'Malley is showing how little he thinks about the parents and children of kids in the school system. At this point, I will mention that O'Malley sends his kids to private school. And add to that, he sends them to private school in Baltimore COUNTY!
