I don't understand why, in political discussions, people are not "allowed" to hold two opposing views on the same topic at the same time. Let me give you a concrete example of what I mean.
For example, it has been argued that "Black leaders" have not taken a stance against the harshness of rap. I've argued, and have demonstrated, that some "Black leaders" like Al Sharpton and Lewis Farrikhan have, indeed, spoken out. Does this mean I support either men?
No it does not. However, in the inane realm of politics, it does seem to mean that I support both men. The reality is, I believe in keeping the arguments fact based. That, I think, is the basis for having a rational discussion. I find it frustrating beyond belief for someone to try to have a rational discussion yet it is based on ignorance, lies, misstatements, or fallacies.
The insanity of the thought that if you disagree with me, you must be an opponent, rears its head regularly in Democrats vs. Republicans, who is best for Blacks garbage.
When I've attacked Democrats from, what I think, is a "Black point of view," I've been blasted and called Republican or conservative. When I've attacked Republicans from, what I think, is a "Black point of view," I've been blasted and called Democrat or liberal.
I am a political independent because I don't believe either party holds the keys for Blacks in the U.S. Blacks hold the keys. We can try to use politics to advance some things in our favor, but politics is not the foundation.

[ Update since it is later ]
In looking at the discussion between P6 and Cobb, something interesting is the line that P6 is taking. Basically, he is saying that since Michael Steele is getting backing from some Republicans who Blacks should suspect, Michael Steele is thus, suspect.
That line of thinking runs across the political system and I find that I can't entirely discount that line of thinking. But this is where investigation of what the individual says, or has done, needs to be done.
For example, Michael Steele:
- Has backed using government to advance Black business.
- Has backed improving the educational system.
- Doesn't support the death penalty.
- Has worked, seriously, on GOP outreach to Blacks. He even hosted a weekly talk show on WOLB, a Radio One talk station based in Baltimore.
- Supports expansion of higher education school loans and has actually blasted the Bush administration cutting of higher education benefits.
The question is, is the suspicion warranted for Steele? I don't think so. However, I'm still waiting to hear more about Steele's views about a broader range of issues.
I'll wrap this up by showing the flip side of the argument.
The last time Robert Byrd ran for office, the Democrat Re-Election committee had members of the CBC stumping for Sen. Byrd, the ex-Klansman.
