Boys to Men program offers young men support from elders
Robert Jackson occasionally needs a little encouragement, and he's not ashamed to say it.
A Central Medical Magnet High School junior, Jackson, 17, plans to attend Stanford University and then law school.
The motivation to map out those plans has been stoked partially by his mentors in the local Boys to Men program.
Jackson joined about 160 other young men and 90 adult men from the
school and community Wednesday for the group's luncheon in the Central
girls' gym.
He described it as "a great program to get that extra push and drive to help me succeed in life."
Those assembled heard from school coaches about character development and focus. Central's drum line and students Johnathan McCowan and Jacobe Jackson provided the musical entertainment.
"This is all about character building," Central principal Patricia Lambert told the group. "This is all about helping you to soar."
