PhatBack Athletics is a Philadelphia based track & field club and mentor program that serves young men between the ages of 13 and 18-years-old. The program is administered by Mister Mann Frisby, who has eight years of coaching experience. PhatBack’s purpose is to develop and nurture the athletic talent of these young men while allowing them to build relationships with highly successful men in various professions. All members are required to attend monthly mentor sessions in which a chosen speaker shares their life experiences. PhatBack athletes train three times a week from April through July and competes mostly on weekends.
In an effort to maintain the quality of the coaching and mentor program, the size of the team will be limited to 25 members for the first two years. After that time an extensive evaluation of the program will be made, and it will be determined whether or not the team should be expanded.
The assistant coach is Angel Patterson, 12 time All-American hurdler. Patterson was a standout sprinter for William Penn High School before moving on to University of Texas at Austin where she broke the school record in the 400 hurdles. (55.50) She currently works as a probation officer for the city of Philadelphia.
It is the founder’s vision that in less than a decade PhatBack Athletics Inc. will be considered one of the finest athletic and academic organizations in the country.
The team motto is: “I am one of many, only opportunity has distinguished me from many….” ---Donny Hathaway.
