The idea that Republicans want to push a balanced budget amendment is a joke. It is nothing but a lame symbolic gesture.
- Why wasn't this pushed when Republicans controlled congress and the presidency?
- Given the accounting tricks that go on with Washington, how is there assurance they will use traditional accounting practices instead of shady accounting?
- Congress and the President, _currently_, ignore the Constitution. How in the world will they be compelled to follow the Constitution if the a balanced budget amendment makes it out of congress and is ratified by the states?
