Indifferent

The NAACP has selected a new president. He is 35 year old Benjamin Todd Jealous.

While I see this as a possible good sign that the old guard is ready to turn over the wheel, the size of the NAACP board and the fact that Julian Bond is still around, forces me to say that I'm indifferent about the selection. If it works, great, if it doesn't, it doesn't.

What is it with you and so many Black folks -- conspicuous by their absence in the NAACP, BTW -- that maintain the organization, its leadership and its mission as dysfunctional, disorganized, antiquated, autocratic, and/or otherwise impotent? They're focused on protecting Americans' civil rights. It's not their job to function as the Order of Negroes or any such social/cultural organization.
