I took my mother "down south" to say good bye to a family friend. She knew him for a long time and it was only fitting that she had the opportunity to say good bye to him.
A 6 1/2 hour drive down provided a lot of time for conversation. I received more oral family history, more teaching, more life lessons, and more "information" that I really cared to receive. A sad time for her provided a wealth of information for me.
While "down south," I was reacquainted with Southern hospitality and more life teachings from a Man of God that was just amazing. He has been married to his wife for more than 50 years and made me realize, again, that what the South doesn't offer in speed, it offers in the opportunity to OWN things that are costly to own "up north."
In the meantime, my daughter made a very BIG decision, and from my point of view, and from her mother's point of view, she made the right choice. I made sure that I told her so. Yet again, she made me proud, and I told her so.
Life goes on. Life is family and good friends.
